Pastoral Support Worker Location: Accrington area Start Date: 1st September Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent (Temp-to-Perm) Setting: Alternative Provision (AP) About the Role Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who benefit from specialised educational settings? We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to join a supportive alternative provision in the Accrington area. This role begins on 1st September on a temporary basis, with the genuine view of transitioning into a permanent contract for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities Mentoring & Wellbeing: Provide 1-to-1 and small group pastoral support, acting as a trusted mentor to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour. Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour support strategies, de-escalate situations calmly, and encourage productive engagement in learning. Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to track student progress, monitor attendance, and update support plans. Safeguarding: Actively promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in line with school policies and statutory guidelines. What We Are Looking For Experience: Previous experience working with young people in a school, alternative provision, youth work, or residential care setting. Empathy & Resilience: A calm, patient, and resilient approach with a strong commitment to trauma-informed practice. Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive rapport with disengaged or vulnerable students, as well as their families and staff.
