Job Description

£25,000–£30,000 | Full or part-time | Permanent Depden Care Farm, Depden, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk Could you help us make more of six acres of possibility? Depden Care Farm is a well-established charity providing learning, training and wellbeing opportunities through farming, horticulture and the natural environment. Our six-acre site includes gardens, vegetable growing areas, orchards, polytunnels, animal areas and wider green spaces. We now want an enthusiastic and knowledgeable horticulturist to help us realise their full potential. This is not a traditional grounds maintenance role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys creating, growing and developing: someone who can look at a space, see what it could become and make it happen. As our Horticultural Development Coordinator, you will: develop attractive, accessible and biodiverse gardens and growing spaces; lead productive and sustainable fruit and vegetable growing; help establish initiatives including a community veg box scheme, plant sales and seasonal produce; plan and deliver longer-term horticultural improvements across the site; and create purposeful horticultural projects that enable our Farm Helpers to learn new skills, participate and experience the satisfaction of meaningful work. You’ll need practical horticultural, vegetable production or landscape-management knowledge, experience of planning and maintaining horticultural spaces through the seasons, and an understanding of sustainable growing and good environmental practice. Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who is creative, self-motivated and full of ideas. You’ll have considerable scope to shape the role and influence how horticulture develops at Depden. You’ll join a small, friendly and values-driven organisation where initiative is encouraged and good ideas can quickly become reality. For the right person, this is a chance to put your stamp on a unique site — helping both people and plants flourish. Salary: £25,000–£30,000 depending on experience Hours: Full or part-time, up to 40 hours Monday–Friday; minimum 3 days per week. Occasional weekend work. Benefits: 21 days' holiday plus bank holidays, pension contribution and significant training and development opportunities.
