Job Description
The Abbey is a registered charity operating a retreat centre in the heart of Oxfordshire . Set in a beautiful Grade I listed medieval manor house, we host residential retreats, workshops, courses, talks and events for individuals, charities, universities and other organisations. We are a welcoming, inclusive space open to people of all faiths and none, with a strong focus on wellbeing, personal growth, spirituality, learning and connection. We’re looking for a warm, organised and hands-on person to join The Abbey team — someone who takes pride in creating a welcoming, well-kept environment and enjoys working with people from all over the world. You’ll coordinate our resident volunteers, oversee housekeeping and help keep the day-to-day running of our beautiful historic retreat centre smooth and welcoming. This is a live-in position, with accommodation provided on site at The Abbey . The successful candidate will have their own private bedroom within the Abbey premises , with access to shared facilities. Living on site is an important part of the role, as The Abbey is a residential retreat centre. You will be part of the day-to-day life of the house and work closely with the Charity Manager, volunteers and wider team to ensure that the Abbey is welcoming, well maintained and running smoothly. Please note that this is not an intentional community or communal living arrangement, but a live-in working environment within a small and friendly team. We are looking for someone who can take up the position at the end of January 2027 . To ensure a smooth transition, the successful candidate will be invited to join us earlier as a volunteer for approximately one month , before officially starting in the paid position. This will allow you to work alongside our current Housekeeping & Volunteers Coordinator, learn how The Abbey operates, get to know our volunteers and guests, and receive a thorough handover before taking on the role independently.
