Student Success and Mentor Adviser Are you passionate about helping young people overcome challenges, build confidence and achieve their potential? We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Student Success and Mentor Adviser to join our team and support students aged 16–19 to succeed academically, personally and in their future careers. This could be an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate looking to develop a career in education, careers guidance, student support, counselling, youth work or educational leadership. Based: Richard Huish College Salary: SP 8–10 £26,343 - £27,733 FTE (actual based on term time only £23,744 - £24,997) Contract: Full-time, Term Time Plus 1 week - fixed term for 1 year Closing Date: 30th October 2026 About the role You will work directly with students, providing a combination of one-to-one mentoring, study skills support and progression guidance. You will help students develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to succeed at college and beyond. Your role will include: • Delivering engaging study skills workshops covering revision, organisation, time management, motivation, resilience, note-taking and exam preparation. • Providing one-to-one mentoring and coaching, helping students set goals, monitor progress and develop positive study habits. • Supporting students experiencing barriers to learning, working closely with Learning Support, Well-Being and pastoral teams. • Encouraging attendance, engagement and independent learning. • Supporting students with university, UCAS, apprenticeship and employment applications, including personal statements and progression planning. • Helping students explore careers, courses and labour market opportunities. • Supporting university visits, higher education events, careers activities and other progression initiatives. • Liaising with universities, employers and external partners. • Keeping up to date with developments in higher education admissions and student finance. • Contributing to the Student Executive and ensuring the student voice is heard, particularly for those experiencing barriers to education. • Supporting enrolment, open events, induction and wider student services activities. About you You will be someone who: • Enjoys building positive and supportive relationships with young people. • Is passionate about helping students overcome barriers and realise their potential. • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Can motivate, encourage and engage both individuals and groups. • Is organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload. • Is empathetic, approachable and committed to inclusion. • Can deliver engaging workshops and presentations. • Understands the importance of safeguarding and student wellbeing.
