Job Description
We are looking for a Volunteer Visitor (Male Volunteer Preferred) We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities, matching passionate volunteers with people who share similar interests and hobbies. Visitors make around six visits a year to build a meaningful one-to-one connection, provide companionship, encourage people to enjoy the things they love, and check in on their wellbeing. For many people, their visitor is the only person in their life who isn't paid to spend time with them. This is a Stop and Stay, Let's Get Busy visitor role, which means the person you will be visiting enjoys taking part in activities and choosing how they spend their time. As your friendship develops, you may choose to go out together, either independently or with support from staff where needed. Your Volunteer Manager will be happy to provide ideas and support. Visits are usually around an hour or longer, depending on the activities you choose to do together. In this role, you'll spend quality time with a gentleman who enjoys: Remote control vehicles Watching Western films and TV programmes Car racing and motorsports Colouring and other simple creative activities Visiting his local café for a drink and a chat Activities could include: Sitting and having a chat Going to a local café together Watching a Western film or favourite TV show Talking about cars, racing, and remote control vehicles Colouring and other relaxed activities Sharing interests and spending time together This role would suit a male volunteer who enjoys conversation, has a friendly and patient approach, and would like to make a real difference through companionship and shared interests. As a Mencap volunteer visitor you will be: Friendly and approachable Accepting of others who might be different to yourself Reliable and patient Passionate about supporting people with a with a learning disability. As a Mencap visitor you will: Have the opportunity to help make a difference to the life of the person you visit Receive a personalised volunteer induction and training Have agreed out of pocket expenses reimbursed Meet new people Get on-going support, and feel appreciated and valued
