This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and emotionally within a supportive infant school environment. This role is initially fixed term for after the half term start, or ASAP. The Role The successful candidate will: initially provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH and ASD needs for 2 to 3 days a week and support within our ESP, or with another child for the other 2 days Build a positive, trusting relationship to support emotional wellbeing, communication and engagement in learning. Implement personalised strategies to help the child regulate emotions and access the curriculum. Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and external professionals to deliver consistent support. Promote positive behaviour, social interaction and independence. Support sensory regulation and respond effectively to changing needs throughout the school day. Encourage participation in learning and play activities both indoors and outdoors. Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and meetings where required. Work with children across the infant school (reception to year 2) to support high SEND needs. We Are Looking For Someone Who: Has experience working with children with SEMH, ASD and/or additional learning needs. Is patient, empathetic and able to remain calm in challenging situations. Has a good understanding of autism and strategies that support communication, sensory needs and emotional regulation. Is physically fit, active and able to keep pace with a young child who may require support during outdoor learning, physical activities and movement breaks throughout the day. Can adapt quickly, use their initiative and demonstrate a flexible approach. Has excellent communication and teamwork skills. Is flexible and adaptable. Is committed to inclusion and ensuring every child reaches their potential. Desirable Qualifications and Experience Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Experience supporting children with SEMH and ASD in an educational setting. Training in therapeutic approaches, nurture principles, trauma-informed practice, Team Teach or positive behaviour support strategies, steps trained.
