Attendance and Inclusion Teaching Assistant Location: Clifton, Bedfordshire School: Clifton All Saints Academy Salary: From £13.70 per hour Contract: 30 hours per week - term time only Clifton All Saints Academy is seeking to appoint an Attendance and Inclusion Teaching Assistant (AITA) to join our team. The successful applicant will become part of a forward thinking school, which looks to support our most vulnerable children with their attendance and inclusion in school life as well as in the classroom. We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, flexible and highly motivated individual to work alongside our school leaders, admin staff and class teachers to improve attendance and inclusion through working with pupils and parents. Our Attendance and Inclusion Teaching Assistant will help track student attendance, supports families to overcome barriers to coming to school, and promotes an inclusive environment for all children The school has an excellent reputation for supporting vulnerable children with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds. As a result of this we have an exciting and innovative opportunity to support these pupils in a dual role. The role will involve splitting your time between monitoring and checking attendance across the school, completing activities and support to improve attendance and supporting vulnerable pupils in their learning environment as a teaching assistant, including in our pre-school. In the morning, the AITA will work with families to support, primarily, attendance and other learning barriers. The AIA will assist the school Inclusion and Attendance lead/SENDCo, colleagues, school and the Local Authority in maintaining effective contact and communication with parents/carers and families where support and intervention are needed and/or ongoing. In the afternoon the AITA will work as a teaching assistant supporting individuals with their learning. The AITA will aim to improve and maintain school attendance figures and provide support to pupils. The AIA will also engage with parents/carers and families to encourage good attendance and provide support to improve attendance and learning outcomes for pupils. Our AITA will provide a complementary service to teaching and other staff, addressing the needs of children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential, or accessing the curriculum. The AITA will work with a range of pupils especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages including children with special or medical needs including SEMH, children with challenging behaviour and children with a statement of special educational needs. The role requires you to: Attendance Tracking: Monitor daily registers, log absences, and track patterns of lateness using school computer systems. Family Engagement: Contact parents or carers regarding unexplained absences and help bridge the gap between home and school. Inclusion Support: Work with pupils who face emotional, behavioral, or medical hurdles that affect their ability to attend school full-time. Administrative Duties: Maintain secure student records, prepare paperwork for review meetings, and assist the pastoral or SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) teams. Multi-Agency Liaison: Work alongside external services like education welfare officers to support vulnerable students. Support pupils in a classroom, internal provision, including 1:1 support for children with SEND needs Carry out parent contract meetings where pupils are persistently absent Support pupils with medical needs and other issues which prevent full-time attendance by liaising with staff, parents/carers and other professionals to provide pupils with missed schoolwork. Attend relevant meetings regarding the wellbeing of specific pupils Deliver a range of structured interventions (Hamish and Milo, SNIP, SCERT) Promote inclusion through the development of social skills, language and emotional well-being. Work under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCO and liaise with other professionals both within and outside the school. Show a high degree of initiative and be able to react to given situations with integrity and compassion. Support children with a range of SEND needs Desirable characteristics : experience in working with children with SEND in a 1:1 role experience supporting children with ASD, Speech and Language, Global Delay and Cognition and Learning difficulties experience supporting intimate care experience supporting children with language delay and social communication difficulties experience supporting children with social emotional and mental health difficulties The ability to identify, in association with colleagues, pupils who would benefit from support.
