Indirect Tax Advisory Indirect Taxes are taxes charged on everyday transactional activities, and our team advises on how businesses should manage these. The most well-known Indirect Tax is VAT, but we also cover other transactional taxes including Insurance Premium Tax and Air Passenger Duty, amongst others. Our Indirect Tax Advisory team help our clients manage their VAT and Indirect Tax positions – whether it is advising on multi-million-pound transactions, VAT on everyday retail products, or how we can help clients adopt tech to report VAT correctly on their income and expenditure. As well as being at the forefront of tax technology, Indirect Taxes involve an understanding of case law, so skillsets and experiences in our team are wide-ranging. What skills and academic qualifications do I need? This programme is for university students who are doing well academically and want to test their skills in the real world. You must be in the penultimate year of your course, or going onto a Masters, and you need to be on track to achieve a predicted degree classification of 2:1 or above in any discipline. We have identified 10 core skills that are essential to all our roles in Early Careers. Students who perform well on our Summer Vacation Scheme may have the opportunity to convert into the corresponding Graduate role for the following year. However the Graduate conversion must be within the same team and location as the Summer placement. What kind of work will I do? Indirect Taxes impact our clients throughout their supply chains and require us to have a detailed understanding of how their businesses work. Within the Indirect Tax Advisory, your industry expertise will develop alongside your tax technical knowledge, enabling you to provide advice to clients that assists them to undertake their business. You will gain an understanding of client products, supply chains and processes/systems to enable you to advise them effectively. You will also work alongside Indirect Tax specialists in Technology areas, together with colleagues in other tax areas and across the wider Deloitte services. Your work will range from compliance support, providing technical advice, support in disputes, advising on large transactions and other. “What I enjoy most about my role at Deloitte is helping clients navigate complex VAT issues and understanding how VAT rules apply in different commercial situations. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events.
