Teaching Assistant (Year 1) Contract: Temporary until August 2027 in the first instance (with possibility of extension/permanent contract for the right candidate) Grade: H10 Start: Monday 2nd November 2026 Location: Little Stoke, South Gloucestershire An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dedicated team at Little Stoke Primary School . We are seeking a nurturing, proactive and highly motivated Teaching Assistant to join our team in a Year 1 classroom. This is a fixed-term role until August 2027 in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension or permanent contract for the right candidate. Working alongside the class teacher, you will support pupils individually, in small groups and at whole-class level, helping to deliver high-quality learning experiences and ensuring every child is able to make excellent progress. You will play an important role in supporting children's academic, social and emotional development during this vital stage of their education. Why Join Little Stoke Primary School? About the Role The successful candidate will: • Work closely with the Year 1 class teacher to support high-quality teaching and learning. • Support pupils on an individual basis, in small groups and as part of whole-class learning activities. • Help children develop their early reading, phonics, writing and mathematical skills. • Provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help to access the curriculum. • Support children with SEND and contribute to ensuring inclusive provision for all learners. • Promote positive behaviour and help children develop confidence, independence and resilience. • Nurture pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development. • Prepare and organise classroom resources and learning environments. • Support educational visits, enrichment opportunities and breaktime supervision as required. • Work as part of a dedicated team to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare. What We're Looking For Essential • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent). • Experience of working with children in an educational, childcare or similar setting. • A patient, caring and nurturing approach. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • An understanding of children's learning and development. • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues. • Strong behaviour management and organisational skills. • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Desirable • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent qualification. • Experience of working within a primary school setting. • Experience of supporting children with SEND. • Knowledge of early reading and phonics teaching. • Experience of delivering interventions to individuals or small groups. • First Aid qualification.
