Full-Time (1.0 FTE) | Fixed-Term Contract (12 Months) Location: London Reports to: Assistant Director, Student Support & Operations About the Role Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience? We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Student Affairs Assistant to join our Student Support team in central London. This is an exciting opportunity to support approximately 1,200 international students each year, helping them make the most of their academic and personal experience while studying in London. Working within a busy Student Affairs Office, you will play a key role in student welfare, pastoral support, student engagement activities, accommodation services, and student communications. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for student enquiries, helping students access support services, participate in social and cultural programmes, and thrive both academically and personally. This role is ideal for someone with experience in higher education , student support , student services , student engagement , or student welfare who enjoys working in a student-centred environment. Key Responsibilities Student Support & Welfare Act as a first point of contact for student enquiries, providing professional, timely, and student-focused support. Respond to enquiries via email, telephone, social media, and face-to-face meetings. Signpost students to appropriate university services and escalate complex issues where necessary. Support students with welfare, wellbeing, pastoral, and accommodation-related matters. Assist with student incident reporting and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Student Experience & Engagement Support the planning, promotion, and delivery of an extensive student social programme and cultural events calendar. Help create opportunities for students to engage with life in London and the wider UK. Assist with orientation activities, welcome programmes, residence life events, and community-building initiatives. Encourage participation in volunteering, cultural exchange programmes, and extracurricular activities. Student Communications Create and distribute engaging student communications, including newsletters, emails, posters, social media content, and digital announcements. Manage and update student social media platforms to promote events, services, and student engagement opportunities. Ensure student information resources remain accurate, relevant, and accessible. Accommodation & Residence Support Support residence administration activities including welcome packs, student IDs, residence communications, and housing enquiries. Liaise with maintenance, security, and housekeeping teams regarding student welfare and accommodation-related matters. Monitor accommodation requests and facilitate appropriate follow-up action. Administration & Compliance Maintain accurate student records and databases. Assist with Oyster Card application approvals through Transport for London. Support UKVI compliance processes, including visa and passport checks. Contribute to the maintenance and updating of student handbooks and guidance materials. Work collaboratively with academic and professional services teams to provide seamless student support. Operational Support Contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the Student Affairs Office. Provide reception cover when required. Support additional student-facing activities and projects as required. About You To be successful in this role, you will have: Essential Experience working within higher education , student services , student affairs , student support , or a related environment. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Experience handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Confidence working with students from diverse cultural and international backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience using social media and digital communication platforms. Desirable Experience supporting international students. Knowledge of student wellbeing, accommodation, and pastoral support services. Understanding of UKVI compliance requirements and student visa processes. Experience organising events, student activities, or engagement programmes.
