What will you be doing? Daz In The Hat Radio CIC is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led internet radio station broadcasting 24/7 via the internet and Alexa smart speakers. We support unsigned and independent artists from around the world while providing volunteers with opportunities to gain practical experience in radio, media and broadcasting. We are looking for an experienced Volunteer Audio Editor to work remotely as part of our team and help maintain a professional standard across our radio shows, artist interviews and live music recordings. The volunteer’s main responsibility will be to take recorded audio and prepare it for broadcast. This will include editing shows and interviews, removing mistakes, unwanted sections, excessive pauses and background noise where appropriate. They will improve sound quality, balance audio levels and ensure speech and music are clear and consistent. Where required, the Audio Editor will add station jingles, introductions, outros and other production elements to create a professional finished programme. An important priority will be editing interviews and live sessions featuring unsigned and independent artists. These programmes form an important part of our work, giving emerging artists opportunities to have their music and stories heard by wider audiences. The Audio Editor will work with presenters and other members of our remote volunteer team. Good communication will be important when receiving recordings, understanding editing requirements and ensuring completed programmes are returned within agreed timescales. Key responsibilities and deliverables include: Editing radio shows, artist interviews and live music recordings Removing unwanted audio, mistakes and excessive pauses Reducing background noise and improving audio clarity where possible Balancing and maintaining consistent audio levels Adding station jingles, introductions and other production elements Producing high-quality, broadcast-ready audio files Completing editing within agreed deadlines Communicating with presenters and relevant team members Keeping audio files organised and handling station material responsibly The role requires approximately 4–8 hours per week, with flexibility to fit around employment, studies, caring responsibilities or other commitments. Previous audio-editing experience is required, and volunteers should be confident using Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar audio-editing software. They should have good attention to detail, be reliable and be comfortable working independently within a remote team. As a thank you for their contribution, all volunteers receive gift tokens on their birthdays, and references are available upon request. The role also provides an opportunity to develop practical experience and build a portfolio of audio production work. By helping us produce professional-quality programming, the Audio Editor will make an important contribution to Daz In The Hat Radio CIC and our aim of providing a worldwide platform for unsigned and independent artists. What are we looking for? We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Audio Editor who shares our commitment to supporting unsigned and independent artists and would like to use their skills to contribute to a volunteer-led Community Interest Company. The most important requirement is practical experience in audio editing and production. The volunteer should be confident using software such as Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar professional audio-editing software and be able to take raw recordings and turn them into clear, professional, broadcast-ready content. They should understand basic audio production techniques, including balancing sound levels, reducing background noise, removing unwanted sections, editing speech and music, and creating smooth transitions. Experience editing radio programmes, podcasts, interviews, live music or other spoken-word content would be particularly useful. Key skills and qualities we are looking for include: Previous practical experience in audio editing Confidence using Audacity, Adobe Audition or similar software A good ear for sound quality and attention to detail Ability to edit speech, music and interviews to a professional standard Understanding of audio levels, noise reduction and basic audio processing Good organisational and time-management skills Ability to meet agreed deadlines Reliable and able to work independently without constant supervision Good communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with presenters and other volunteers Comfortable working remotely and communicating through email, WhatsApp and online meetings Ability to follow instructions while also using their own judgement and creativity Respect for confidentiality and unpublished material An interest in radio, music, broadcasting or the wider media industry Because we operate remotely and have volunteers in different locations, reliability and communication are particularly important.
