About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Estate Woodsperson to join our growing forestry team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about woodland management and enjoys working outdoors in all seasons.
You will support the delivery of the estate’s woodland management programme - from harvesting and establishment work to maintenance and new planting. The role offers variety, meaningful contribution, and the chance to be part of a long‑term landscape stewardship mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planned harvesting programmes, including felling and thinning, using forestry winches, tractors and forwarding equipment.
- Carry out a wide range of woodland tasks including tree planting, plantation maintenance and firewood production.
- Operate machinery, tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain vehicles, machines, tools and PPE in good, clean and safe working order.
- Follow Estate health and safety procedures, taking responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues.
- Act as a positive ambassador for Mulgrave Estate, upholding its values and standards.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in woodland or forestry operations.
- Organised, reliable and adaptable, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team while taking on board instruction.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to high‑quality work.
- Up to date with Health and Safety and Safe Systems of Work.
- A good communicator who takes pride in their contribution.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Understanding of basic forest and land management principles.
- Chainsaw certification (maintenance, cross‑cutting and small tree felling).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Genuine interest in forestry with a desire to progress and learn, with a good practical aptitude.
- Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Large tree felling and windblow certification.
- Experience with tractors, winches, skidders, forwarding trailers and firewood processing.
- Additional NPTC/LANTRA/FISA qualifications such as spraying, ATV, etc.
- Previous experience working on a rural estate (beneficial but not essential).
