We are seeking to appoint an outstanding middle leader with the ability to teach Music from KS3-KS5 to join our thriving Creative Learning Area, which includes Music, Art, Performing Arts and Music Technology. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious practitioner to work closely with the Learning Area Leader, helping to shape the strategic direction of the department and lead it forward with vision and energy. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Learning Area Leader to develop and refine an ambitious and engaging curriculum, monitor standards of teaching, learning and assessment, drive improvement and secure excellent educational outcomes. They will contribute to a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the Learning Area. The successful candidate will join a thriving, growing music department where they will teach KS3 Music, lead GCSE and A Level Music provision and support the new Music Technology course. They will demonstrate a range of skills across the theoretical, compositional, and performing aspects of the subject alongside competence in music technology. The role will also include effective liaison with peripatetic music staff through our partnership with the Chepstow Community Music Centre. Candidates will play a key role in raising the profile of the Creative Learning Area within the school and the wider community through organising and leading high-profile enrichment and performance events, including the Christmas concert and an annual school production. This role will include responsibility of line management of the Music and Drama / Performing Arts curriculum, assessment and teaching and learning. Music at Wyedean Wyedean’s Music Department is part of the Creative Subjects Learning Area and has a music suite housed in the Performing Arts building. Accommodation benefits from a recording studio, adjoining practice rooms, and a creative hub for use with KS4 and KS5 students. We also have access to the on-site Chepstow Community Music Centre that houses five fully resourced practice rooms, a larger rehearsal room and a second recording studio. Our specialist teaching area is fully equipped with iMac computers and MIDI keyboards, allowing students across the key stages, access to Garageband, Logic Pro and MuseScore software, in addition to a variety of acoustic instruments. We currently run courses in Music GCSE (OCR) and Music A level (AQA) and contribute to the Level 1/2 Vocational Performing Arts (Eduqas) course at KS4, level 3 BTEC Performing Arts at KS5. We successfully introduced A level Music Technology in the department in September 2025. The Department works in conjunction with the Chepstow Community Music Centre, which has a visiting peripatetic staff who teach a wide variety of instrumental lessons. Sixth form music and performing arts students have access to the practice rooms throughout the school day. The recording studio allows students to produce recordings for GCSE and A level coursework and extra-curricular ensembles. We offer an extensive range of extra-curricular Music activities at Wyedean, and it is expected that the new teacher would be able to bring their own expertise and enthusiasm to these.
