Aspire Volunteer

On Monday evenings during term time, Leatherhead Youth Project (LYP) runs a project called Aspire to help support young people in school years 11 - 13. This includes maths & English tutorship to help young people gain GCSE or functional skills qualifications, money budgeting sessions and support with exploring further education, volunteering or job opportunities. This volunteer role will support the running of this project and involves helping to run the session and provide tutorship for the young people to help them with their maths & English. All the sessions are planned in advance by the 16+ Provision Lead and shared with the volunteers. Each session is tailored to the individual needs of the young people attending. Main Duties and Responsibilities To be available from 6:15 - 7:45pm on Monday evenings during term time. To be friendly, welcoming and encouraging to the young people attending. Engage young people in learning and help build their confidence. Support neurodiverse young people and adapt the learning to suit their individual needs. Have a good knowledge of foundation GCSE and functional skills maths and English to be able to provide tutorship to the young people. Ability to adapt your teaching to different learning styles. The session will finish at 7:30pm, to help with tidying up afterwards. To undertake appropriate training with LYP before and during your time as a volunteer, including safeguarding training. To be aware of any concerns for young people present and to immediately report these to the project leader. Training All LYP volunteers are subject to a DBS check, references, and basic training on youth work and safeguarding.
