SEN TA - High Needs pupil

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a significant difference to the learning, development, independence and wellbeing of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Working closely with teachers, SEND staff and families, the successful candidate will help pupils access learning, overcome barriers and achieve their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities Supporting Teaching and Learning Work alongside teachers and the SENDCo to support the delivery of high-quality, inclusive learning experiences. Provide targeted support for individual pupils and small groups, including those with EHCPs and additional learning needs. Adapt activities, resources and teaching approaches to meet the individual needs of pupils with SEND. Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, enabling them to participate fully in lessons and school life. Implement strategies and interventions recommended by teachers, the SENDCo and external agencies. Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive learning behaviours. Support the development of communication, language, social and interaction skills. Assist with the preparation and organisation of differentiated classroom resources and learning activities. Observe, monitor and record pupil progress against individual targets, providing feedback to teaching staff and the SENDCo. Promote high expectations of achievement, behaviour and participation for all pupils. SEND and Individual Pupil Support Provide personalised support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including learning difficulties, autism, speech and language needs, physical disabilities, sensory needs and social, emotional and mental health needs. Support the implementation and review of EHCP outcomes, provision maps and individual support plans. Deliver structured intervention programmes under the direction of teaching staff and the SENDCo. Support pupils during periods of dysregulation using agreed behaviour and emotional regulation strategies. Encourage independence while ensuring pupils feel safe, supported and successful. Work closely with external professionals, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and specialist teachers, as appropriate. Promote inclusion and advocate for pupils' individual needs within the classroom and wider school environment. Pupil Wellbeing and Pastoral Support Build positive, nurturing relationships with pupils, helping them feel safe, valued and included. Support pupils' social, emotional and personal development. Encourage positive behaviour and model the school's values, expectations and inclusive culture. Support pupils in developing friendships, confidence and self-esteem. Respond appropriately to welfare concerns and contribute fully to safeguarding procedures. Support pupils during transitions throughout the school day and between year groups. Assist pupils during educational visits, enrichment activities and extra-curricular opportunities where required. Classroom Organisation Help maintain a calm, stimulating and inclusive learning environment. Prepare, organise and maintain classroom resources and displays that support SEND learners. Assist with the organisation of specialist resources and equipment where required. Support teachers with administrative tasks that contribute to effective classroom operation. Assist with supervision during lessons and learning activities, ensuring pupils remain engaged and supported. Lunchtime Support Supervise and support pupils during lunchtime, promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing and inclusion. Provide additional support for pupils who may find unstructured times challenging. Assist pupils in the dining hall and playground as required. Encourage social interaction, communication and cooperative play. Facilitate playground activities and structured games where appropriate. Support pupils in managing friendships, emotions and social situations. Respond to incidents appropriately and ensure pupils' welfare needs are met. Communicate any concerns relating to behaviour, wellbeing or safeguarding promptly to appropriate staff. Wider School Contribution Participate in school events, trips and enrichment activities as required. Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENDCo, support staff, parents and external professionals. Attend relevant meetings relating to pupil progress and wellbeing. Contribute to the school's commitment to inclusion, equality of opportunity and high achievement for all pupils. Undertake training and professional development to develop SEND knowledge and expertise. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
