Maintenance Operative

Job Purpose The Maintenance Operative is responsible for ensuring that student accommodation buildings, communal areas, and facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents. The role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, health and safety checks, and supporting the overall operation of the accommodation. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repairs Carry out general maintenance and repair work across accommodation buildings and communal areas. Respond promptly to maintenance requests raised by students and staff. Diagnose faults and undertake corrective actions where appropriate. Support room changeovers and refurbishment projects during peak periods. Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Undertake scheduled maintenance tasks in accordance with maintenance plans. Conduct regular inspections of buildings, plant, equipment, and facilities. Record maintenance activities and ensure accurate documentation is maintained. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure all maintenance work is completed in compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies. Conduct routine safety checks including fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, and communal facilities. Report hazards, defects, and compliance concerns immediately. Maintain safe working practices and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Contractor Management Assist in coordinating specialist contractors and service providers on site. Monitor contractor performance and ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard. Support access arrangements and permit-to-work procedures where applicable. Customer Service Provide a professional, friendly, and responsive service to students and colleagues.
