JOB DESCRIPTION

Employment status and working hours

Fixed term for around five months, part time for seven hours per week.

For the module period, we estimate that work on one module will take an average of 7 hours per week, however it is likely that work activities in some weeks may be more or less than this estimate. You will be directed on when to work your hours and please bear in mind student expectations and our minimum expectations for Module Leader (see below).

Place of work flexibility

You will normally spend your total working time at home*, which must be within the UK. *Working from home is only possible if your environment is suitable – please see the ‘Working from home’ section on our Careers Site for further information. You must provide your own equipment.

Background

The Undergraduate Building Control Integrated Degree Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) is a final year 20-credit module that meets two requirements for each student, and optionally a third. The module’s 20 credits provide the last element of the 360 required for a BSC (Hons) degree at University of the Built Environment. It also fulfils the requirements of the Apprenticeship Standard, which ensures all industry and academic funding is accounted for.

Each student can also apply for membership of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) and/or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the outcome dependent on the professional interview as part of the EPA.

A Module Leader (Associate Lecturer) is now needed for this role, and who has not taught or otherwise had contact with any of the EPA cohort prior to the module starting. This ensures an impartial and professional approach to the completion of the Apprenticeship Assessment Plan.

Minimum expectations of a Module Leader

You are responsible for ensuring the module is delivered to plan, on schedule and to the required quality, to achieve high student satisfaction and to enable students to achieve successful outcomes.

• Accessibility to students. You must be accessible to students on your module; this may include the delivery of a “surgery” hour once a week, which could be a drop-in session or equivalent. There must be at least one per week, depending on the week of delivery.

• VLE monitoring. You must regularly monitor the VLE activities to stimulate activity and engagement.

• Response times. You must respond to student queries and posts within the timeframes specified on your allocated day(s) and times related to module activity. You must also post a wrap-up each week summarising the week’s activities and providing cohort feedback to students on their contributions.

• Forum discussion initiation. You must initiate forum discussions as required (requirements will vary per module depending on the build).

• Forum subscription. You must subscribe to the appropriate forums for your module to ensure that any VLE notifications are forwarded to your University email account.

• Email monitoring. You must monitor your University email account regularly.

• Webinars. You must ensure appropriate weekly synchronous activities (for example, webinars) are planned and delivered on your module, plus additional sessions to support pre- and post-assessment preparation/activities.

• Accessibility to colleagues. You must be contactable by University colleagues, for the purposes of effective working, performing your role under this contract, and resolving any issues which may occasionally arise on modules.
