BSL Teaching Assistant – Minimum Level 2 Location: Lewisham, South East London Pay: £110–£130 per day Contract: Full Time | Term Time Only | Long Term Start Date: September 2026 New Chapter Tuition is recruiting a BSL Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a deaf Year 10 student within a secondary school in Lewisham. The young person is newly arrived in the UK and has had limited previous access to formal education and hearing support. He has recently received new hearing aids and is gradually adjusting to them. He does not currently use sign language and primarily communicates through lip reading and gesture. We are looking for a patient, resilient and adaptable individual who can introduce and develop British Sign Language (BSL) while helping the student access learning, develop communication and integrate into school life. The Role: Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day. Introduce and model BSL to develop communication skills. Use BSL, gesture, visual prompts and modelling. Support engagement with lessons and classroom routines. Work closely with teaching and SEND staff. Requirements: Minimum BSL Level 2 qualification. Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired young people. Patient, creative and resilient approach. Benefits: Long-term placement, with the potential to continue through Years 10 and 11.
