We’re looking for an experienced countryside ranger ready for a new challenge. Working at the forefront of nature conservation and land management, you’ll be part of a dedicated ranger team caring for nationally important landscapes that are rich in wildlife and valued by local communities.

As Area Ranger, you’ll work across several National Trust sites, helping to deliver an ambitious programme of nature recovery. Species recovery and reintroduction are key priorities, including a beaver project with plans for wild releases, a catchment-scale water vole reintroduction programme on the River Wey, and a range of other conservation initiatives. Our work combines rewilding principles, natural process management and targeted site-based conservation to create thriving habitats and resilient landscapes.

You’ll develop and deliver a flexible programme of work guided by operational priorities and the Trust’s commitment to restoring nature and ensuring everyone can enjoy the countryside. You’ll also play an important role in maintaining high standards of site presentation and land management, building strong relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants and neighbouring land managers.

Through events, guided walks and community engagement, you’ll help people connect with and understand the importance of our conservation work, while also identifying opportunities to generate income and support the Trust’s long-term ambitions.

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, with occasional evening and weekend working on a shared team rota (typically 1 week in 4).

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

• experienced in managing land, nature conservation and access for people, including running small projects and supervising contractors
• used to developing and running programmes of work to achieve specific goals in conservation or access
• a strong team player, with a track record in leading and managing staff and volunteers
• practical and skilled in looking after a range of habitats and landscapes, with certificates in chainsaw use, tractor driving and towing trailers
• able to work safely, and take the lead on compliance – including writing risk assessments, and safety and environmental procedures
• happy to talk – with enthusiasm and commitment – to all kinds of people about the work you do and why it matters
• a driver, with a full UK licence.
