Job Title: Front of House Security Guard (Gatehouse) Company: Apollo Security Division Location: Hitchin Salary: £13.30 per hour (PAYE) Job Type: Full-time About the Role Apollo Security Division is seeking an approachable, vigilant, and highly empathetic Front of House Security Guard to manage a busy gatehouse in Hitchin. As the first point of contact for the site, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the premises while delivering exceptional customer service. This is a unique role that requires a high level of emotional intelligence. You will be interacting daily with a diverse range of visitors from around the world, many of whom have varying degrees of English proficiency. Additionally, you will be working closely with the client’s internal staff. A calm, patient, and welcoming temperament is absolutely essential for this position. Key Responsibilities Access Control & Gatehouse Management: Monitor and authorize the entry and departure of employees, visitors, and delivery vehicles at a high-traffic gatehouse. Front of House Duties: Act as the welcoming face of the site, communicating effectively with international drivers and visitors who may have limited English. Compassionate Support: Provide a reassuring, patient, and supportive presence for the client’s staff, maintaining an environment that minimizes stress and anxiety. Emergency Response: Act as a designated first responder on-site, handling any medical or security emergencies calmly and professionally. Traffic Marshalling: Assist with the safe movement of vehicles on-site (Banksman training will be provided). Requirements & Qualifications First Aid Certification: Must hold a valid, recognized First Aid certificate. Exceptional Temperament: A proven ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic, particularly when interacting with vulnerable individuals or those with mental health considerations. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to bridge language barriers and communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Reliability: Highly dependable with excellent time-management skills to adhere to the strict operational roster. SIA License: A valid SIA license is required for this role. Working Hours Training Schedule: 05:00 – 14:30 (minimum of 3 days fully paid) Regular Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday: 14:30 – 00:30 Friday: 14:30 – 22:30 Saturday: 12:00 – 16:30 Sunday: Off Benefits Professional Development: Fully funded Banksman License training provided upon starting.
