Role Details & Benefits Hours of work: Full-time 36.25 The role required flexibility to work evenings, late-night shifts, and weekends and out-of hours incidents as and when required Salary: Grade 3.14-3.16 £25,804 - £26,707 Location: University of St Andrews Students’ Association Franchise Outlet – The Red Gown. Annual leave: 30 days + 5 public holidays. This includes 2 weeks annual leave over the  Christmas period. On shift staff discount. Free staff parking. To prepare,  cook and serve food while ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen, delivering  food to specification in a clean, safe and legal workplace. Key Responsibilities Operational Management Run kitchen shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient operations Ensure kitchen opening and closing procedures are followed Apply “stand back and look” (SBAL) standards across all areas Maintain presentation and organisation of the kitchen Food Quality & Service Prepare, cook and present food to company specification Deliver food within required service time targets Maintain high standards of cleanliness, quality, service, maintenance and atmosphere  (CQSMA) Respond to customer feedback and implement improvements Standards & Compliance Maintain a clean, safe and legal workplace Ensure adherence to SOPs, food safety, and company policies Record accidents, incidents, and complaints correctly Support maintenance of five-star hygiene standards Commercial & Financial Support Support achievement of sales and profit targets Assist with forecasting, cost control, and maximising sales Manage stock, portion control, and minimise wastage Complete stock checks, line checks, and investigate discrepancies Support ordering and stock availability Team Leadership & People Management Lead and motivate kitchen team members Delegate tasks and provide feedback Support recruitment, induction, and training Assist with rota management and break allocation Manage day-to-day performance and attendance Support team development and succession planning Systems & Administration Maintain administration and records in line with GDPR and policy Use systems including kitchen screens and personnel systems Stay up to date with company communications and action plans Maintenance & Facilities Report and manage kitchen maintenance issues Liaise with contractors where required Financial Responsibilities Support kitchen financial performance Control stock, portioning, and wastage Assist with stock ordering and cost control Contribute to efficiency improvements Key Outcomes Efficient and well-run kitchen shifts High-quality food delivered consistently Strong team performance and engagement Compliance with food safety and legal standards Contribution to kitchen profitability Person Specification Expected Behaviours Demonstrates leadership and teamwork Strong organisation and prioritisation Effective communication and resilience Professional and reliable Essential Experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment Strong organisational and time management skills Ability to lead and support a team Knowledge of food safety and compliance Desirable Previous supervisory experience Exposure to stock control and kitchen operations Participation in leadership training Organisational Values A commitment to put students at the heart of everything that the Students’ Association  does.
