Welding Inspector

£33.64 PAYE or umbrella equivalent.
Location: Acton, London (with travel to other TfL depots as required)
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Welding Inspector to join a leading rail engineering team responsible for ensuring the quality, safety and compliance of welding activities on safety-critical rolling stock and components.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled inspector with a strong quality assurance background to work within a highly regulated rail environment, ensuring all welding activities meet industry standards and contribute to the safe return of assets to service.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out visual inspections before, during and after welding activities.
- Perform non-destructive visual testing of welds in accordance with inspection and test plans.
- Interpret engineering drawings and welding specifications to verify compliance.
- Identify, investigate and report welding non-conformances.
- Compile quality assurance documentation and inspection reports.
- Conduct internal surveillance audits to ensure compliance with welding standards.
- Witness welder qualification tests and support ongoing competency assessments.
- Coach and mentor new Welding Inspectors and welding personnel.
- Work closely with engineering, production and quality teams to drive continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
- Level 4 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication & Welding, or equivalent engineering experience.
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector qualification (minimum).
- Experience working to BS EN 15085, ISO 3834, ISO 5817 and ISO 10042 standards.
- Excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills.
- Strong report writing skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Previous experience within the rail industry or a large manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 17637 (Visual Testing) and ISO 9606 (Welder Qualification Testing).
- Previous welding qualifications in MIG/MAG, TIG or MMA.
