This is a permanent opportunity to join United Utilities’ Bioresources Lancashire team as a Field Service Engineer Mechanical, where you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the performance of our water production assets across the region. This is a hands-on, field based position in a fast-paced environment where you will provide both planned and reactive maintenance support. You will work across a variety of mechanical assets, helping to ensure operational reliability, compliance, and efficiency while minimising environmental impact. With a high level of autonomy, you will manage your own workload, respond to operational needs, and contribute to both maintenance and project delivery activities. Key Responsibilities Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical assets, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard Diagnose faults, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to maintain asset performance and minimise downtime Install, replace, and commission mechanical equipment including pumps, mixers, valves, flow meters, pipework, and actuators in line with technical standards Carry out preventative and predictive maintenance activities to support asset longevity and operational reliability Complete accurate service records, job reports, and asset data, ensuring clear communication and effective use of corporate systems Work collaboratively with electrical engineers, operators, and contractors to deliver seamless maintenance and project outcomes Contribute to capital and operational projects including asset installation, upgrades, repairs, and decommissioning Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and internal policies while working in a range of environments including confined spaces Analyse recurring issues and recommend improvements to maintenance strategies and asset performance Manage your own workload, travel, and site schedule, ensuring a timely and professional response to service demands Support financial awareness by working within pre defined budgets and maximising efficiency across maintenance activities Skills and Experience Time served apprenticeship or equivalent, supported by qualifications to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline Full UK driving licence is essential Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within a relevant industrial or utilities environment Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment Willingness to work in confined spaces and develop skills across specialised maintenance areas such as chlorine gas systems Strong diagnostic, organisational, planning, communication, and IT skills A proactive and flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational demands Why This Role This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that plays a critical role in delivering essential services to communities across the North West.
