Overview of project/role
The Senior Product Owner will be accountable for analysing, prioritising and translating business requirements into technical deliverables that are implementable by a Scrum Agile development team. The role holder is accountable for the creation and ongoing maintenance of the product backlog ensuring that stories are appropriately sized and include sufficient information to enable development of valuable software. The role holder provides Agile expertise to ensure backlogs are well maintained, prioritised and managed, acting as an effective conduit between the development team and the business stakeholders, ensuring that expectations of sponsors and stakeholders are met.
The Senior Product Owner will be a specialist in at least one of the following product areas:
• Back office revenue solutions such as payments, pricing or rating, master data services, platform integration
Key Accountabilities
- Be the product owner for assigned systems within the Technology Development portfolio as per the agreed principles of Agile software development - e.g. creating and maintaining the product backlog, defining the acceptance criteria, sequencing and prioritisation of stories, ensuring stories are appropriately scoped and that developers have the correct understanding of what is required to be built.
- Be the ambassador and subject matter expert for their product area.
- Work closely with development team to prioritise product backlog according to business needs and ensure valuable releases.
- Coordinate with technical delivery manager and other delivery teams to ensure that work is correctly sequenced and prioritised to avoid delivery conflict in terms of integration points and the release calendar.
- Be available and decisive when working with delivery teams as product owner. Help educate them with the best possible information and enable those teams to progress.
- Provide sponsors and stakeholders with visibility of product development progress.
- The use of collaboration techniques to accurately scope product features and confirm the needs of business sponsors.
- Providing the development teams with an accurate understanding of features so they can estimate effort and produce consistently high-quality software.
- Collaborate across the Technology Development community to ensure that Agile processes are continually reviewed and improvements implemented.
Knowledge
- A thorough understanding of scrum agile development principles, with a willingness to adapt and learn.
- Experience and understanding of software development and delivery.
- Certification in Product Ownership beneficial.
- A degree in a relevant technology/computer science subject/equivalent technical qualification.
- Familiarity with using an agile SDLC tool such as Azure DevOps for planning, back log maintenance and tracking.
