Albanwise Farming Ltd is seeking a motivated and capable Woodland and Conservation Operative to join the Environment and Conservation Team in Yorkshire. The right candidate will be key in helping to deliver environmental outcomes across the estate. They will possess a strong work ethic, a good practical understanding of woodland and countryside management and conservation, as well as a passion and enthusiasm for the natural environment.
The key focus will be to help ensure that the estate is meeting its environmental targets, achieving the aims of its woodland and agri-environment grant agreements, and that all environmental features across the estate are managed to the highest quality and standards.
Key activities:
- Operational management and maintenance of a wide range of existing woodlands
- Tree and hedgerow planting and maintenance
- Deer, squirrel and predator control
- Wildlife and game management
- Scrub management
- Maintenance of estate fences, gateways and livestock related infrastructure
- Management of priority habitats and SSSI’s
- Maintenance and operation of equipment including chainsaws, strimmers, knapsacks
- Assisting in establishment & management of environmental features in the wider landscape
Skills and Qualifications:
Essential
- Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting qualification
- Felling Small Trees up to 380mm qualification
- Full UK driving licence
- Shotgun and firearms certificates
- Experience managing native woodland
- Good communication skills and a willingness to take on a broad range of activities
Desirable
- Felling and Processing Medium Trees over 380mm and up to 760mm Felling and Processing Large Trees over 760mm
- Game management experience
- Good understanding of the natural world
- Experience carrying out deer, squirrel and predator control
- PA1 & PA6 knapsack spraying qualifications
- Training opportunities can be provided for the right candidate
