Job Description

If you’re looking for a practical, purpose driven role that blends conservation, livestock care and community connection and lets you work outside doing something that genuinely matters, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for someone motivated and passionate about working outdoors with livestock and nature. You’ll enjoy hands-on work, care deeply about animal welfare and conservation, and feel comfortable engaging with people as part of the role. Most importantly, you’ll bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in looking after special places.

If you love working outdoors, care deeply about animal welfare and conservation, and want a role where no two days are the same, this could be for you. As a Livestock Ranger, you’ll get stuck into hands-on conservation grazing, looking after Belted Galloway cattle, Norfolk Horn sheep and Old English goats, while helping manage a beautifully varied estate. You’ll be part of the day-to-day action (checking livestock, supporting breeding programmes, maintaining habitats, and carrying out practical estate work) while also being a friendly, knowledgeable face for visitors and volunteers. This is a role where muddy boots meet meaningful impact: you’ll help protect wildlife, maintain historic landscapes, and make sure the Box Moor Trust estate remains welcoming, safe and thriving for everyone who enjoys it. Ability to work evenings and weekends essential for the role.

About Us

Box Moor Trust is a local charity with over 400 years of history, caring for nearly 500 acres of stunning open space at the heart of the local community. Our estate is anything but ordinary – from rare chalk grasslands and wetlands to the River Bulbourne, one of the UK’s rare chalk streams. We manage much of our land through traditional conservation grazing, working with rare‑breed cattle, sheep and goats to shape landscapes that support wildlife and people alike. We’re a small, passionate team, backed by brilliant volunteers, and we believe nature works best when it’s cared for thoughtfully and shared widely.
