We're looking for Healthcare Assistants to work with our incredible IPU team based in Harrogate.
Your role as a Healthcare Assistant
At the heart of our patient-centred approach is a simple belief that every moment counts. Our mission is to deliver exceptional, personalised care that brings comfort, dignity, and support to our patients and those who love them. As an effective member of our clinical team, you will ensure the provision of high-level care (including palliative, end of life, complex care and social) within a multi- disciplinary approach across all North Yorkshire Hospice Care Services.
In this role, you will:
• Providing compassionate care and support for patients' daily needs, including palliative and end-of-life care
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals
• Ability to follow care plans, policies, and procedures, including infection control and safety guidelines
• Basic clinical skills (e.g. medication administration, monitoring) within training and competence
• Teamwork and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and volunteers
• Accurate record-keeping and documentation of care provided
• Understanding of patient dignity, hygiene, and safeguarding, including care after death
• Manual handling and safe use of equipment to support patient independence
What We're Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant who is not only clinically and operationally skilled but also deeply compassionate, someone who sees hospice care as a vocation, not just a role.
We're looking for:
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence and emotional resilience in handling complex or sensitive situations.
• Experience delivering individualised care in dynamic, needs-led environments such as ward or complex community settings.
• Evidence of formal training or continued professional development in care, particularly palliative care.
• A passion for palliative, hospice, or specialist ward care
• Strong communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach to complex care situations
• The ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team
At our hospice, we understand that this work is deeply personal. That's why we place just as much care into supporting our staff as we do our patients - creating a workplace where people feel valued, listened to and able to grow. If you're ready to bring comfort, dignity, and peace to those at the end of life, we would love to hear from you.
