Trainee Rail Operative

TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a high profile railway client. They are expanding their fleet and are looking for multiple Trainee Rail Operative to join their team located in Cambridge – CB1 3AE on an initial 5 month contract. This role is paying £21 per hour.

Main Duties:

• Responsible for the safe and efficient working of all train movement.
• Shunting within Cambridge Carriage Sidings and other locations under the instructions of the Carriage Siding Supervisor.
• Liaise with Train Crew, Signallers and other staff on matters relating to working within Cambridge Carriage Siding
• Using safe radio protocols where appropriate
• Carry out various other duties to maintain standard documentation, maintain security, and maintain good standard of cleanliness within the Carriage Sidings.

What We Require?

• You will have excellent verbal communication skills as you will be required to liaise with other team members on safety critical matters via radio.
• You will have a flexible approach to work as the role covers all shifts, a heavy commitment to night shifts and weekend/bank holiday working.
• Have a good standard of literacy, clear communication skills and be willing to undertake initial training as required.
• Happy to undertake assessment in the role.
• There is a requirement to wear protective clothing (issued by the client)

Job Title: Trainee Rail Operative/Shunter
Shifts: Various Shifts- including Nights and Weekends (Flexible across all)
Pay Rate: £21 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: 5 months (ongoing)
Location: Cambridge – CB1 3AE
Start Date: 8th June 2026 (must be available to start on this date due to course requirements)

(Please note: this role requires completing and passing a medical and drug and alcohol test)
