Newcastle University Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences Master of Research We are using our strengths in education and research to improve the health of the population, and the MRes course combines both of these. The MRes is delivered over one year, with a mix of taught modules and a 24 week research project. All students have choice in the taught modules that they study, and are offered projects gathered each year from across the Faculty (and in some cases beyond), ensuring that they reflect current research interests. This allows you to develop a deeper knowledge in your chosen subject area, giving you more insight into what it is like to work in research. MRes courses are taken both as ’stand-alone’ degrees by graduates with appropriate first degrees or as an intercalation from Medicine or Dentistry. For most of our courses you will be required to have a minimum of a 2.1 honours degree or international equivalent in a life science or related discipline. An exceptions is the Animal Behaviour MRes for which a broader range of backgrounds are appropriate. To take the course as an intercalation you have to have successfully completed your third or fourth year of study. The MRes welcomes students from around the globe, with a significant fraction being from outside the UK (around 30% in recent years). The cohort diversity, embedding of students in research groups for a significant period of time and the collegiate interactions between students and staff combine to provide a rich experience for all involved in the course.
