The post holder will assist the Ranger team in managing country parks across the North and West Kent area. The successful applicant will be primarily based at Shorne Woods Country Park, Gravesend, but will also work across other sites including Manor Park Country Park, Lullingstone Country Park, Trosley Country Park, Teston Bridge Country Park, Preston Hill and Dryhill, as required.
The role will support the Ranger Services Manager and ranger team in the practical management of sites to preserve and enhance access, recreation and wildlife conservation. This will include supporting the delivery of a biodiversity enhancement project at Shorne Woods Country Park, alongside wider site‑based work across the area.
The successful applicant will be involved in a range of practical countryside management activities, including coppicing, control of invasive species, tree planting, fencing, access works and general site maintenance. Duties will also include operating and maintaining machinery and equipment, assisting contractors working on site, and supporting volunteer activities.
You should hold relevant certificates of competency, or be willing to train, in areas such as chainsaw use, brushcutting, tractor driving and herbicide use, along with other practical skills as required.
Applicants should have knowledge or experience of countryside management, either as a volunteer or paid worker, with an understanding of nature conservation, public access and working with visitors. Good interpersonal skills, reliability and a positive approach to customer care are essential.
The role requires the ability to travel between sites at short notice and drive site vehicles. This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.
