Job Description
Location: Oxburgh Hall, PE33 9PS
Contract Type: Permanent, full-time
Reference/IRC: IRC172361
Closing Date: 17.05.2026
Salary: £27612pa
As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You'll need to work weekends on a rota basis and may occasionally be required to support other property teams in the portfolio with their work.
What it's like
Based at Oxburgh Estate, you’ll be part of a team of staff and volunteers caring for its existing habitats and wildlife and establishing newly created parkland.
The Oxburgh Estate straddles the edge of Breckland and the Fens which creates a uniquely diverse mix of habitats over 200 acres. We look after chalk river, reedbed, woodland and parkland, including establishment of a 130-acre parkland restoration project attached to a 13th century moated manor house. Oxburgh is part of a larger portfolio which includes Felbrigg and Peckover House.
What you'll be doing
Working outdoors in all weathers, you’ll manage year-round access for visitors, using a variety of hand tools and specialist machinery with the help of our dedicated group of volunteers, who you'll be supervising.
To monitor the impact of our work, you’ll undertake regular wildlife surveys of several species assisted by a group of specialist volunteers, keeping good quality records so we can share data with other organisations. You’ll engage visitors and neighbours with our work, helping the Lead Ranger and Countryside Manager build and maintain good relationships with our local community.
You’ll be part of a wider team of operational staff keeping Oxburgh safe and open to the public. You'll be part of the duty management rota, responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.
Who we're looking for
- practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
- happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and why it matters
- hard-working and willing to learn
- able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
- experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors
- able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates
- a driver with a full UK driving licence
