Part time, permanent contract | £29064 - £32061 per annum pro rata | Based in Rothbury, Northumberland
Between 14.8 and 18.5 hours per week
Northumberland National Park Authority is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Ranger to join our dedicated team, supporting conservation, access, and engagement across the stunning landscapes of Northumberland National Park.
About the Role
As a Ranger, you’ll help us protect, maintain and promote the Park’s natural and cultural assets. You will be a key public-facing representative of the Authority, engaging with visitors, volunteers, landowners, community groups and partner organisations. From supervising access and infrastructure maintenance to supporting biodiversity and net-zero projects, you’ll play a vital part in delivering our corporate objectives.
What You’ll Do
- Provide a warm welcome and guidance to Park visitors.
- Monitor and maintain public rights of way, signage, and physical infrastructure.
- Support and supervise volunteers, trainees, and contractors.
- Deliver education and engagement sessions with schools and the public.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of conservation and community projects.
- Represent the Authority at events and with stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures in public spaces.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Training or experience in countryside management or a similar field.
- Sound knowledge of recreation, access, and rural land management.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for working with the public.
- Experience supervising volunteers and leading engagement activities.
- Physical fitness to carry out outdoor tasks in all weather conditions.
- A flexible and proactive approach to work, including weekends and bank holidays.
Desirable:
- Formal qualifications in land-based or conservation disciplines.
- Knowledge of Northumberland National Park’s special qualities and wildlife.
Additional Requirements
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel across the National Park.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
