As the nation’s expert national health security agency UKHSA will: Prevent: anticipate threats to health and help build the nation’s readiness, defences and health security Detect: use cutting edge environmental and biological surveillance to proactively detect and monitor infectious diseases and threats to health Analyse: use world-class science and data analytics to assess and continually monitor threats to health, identifying how best to control and mitigate the risks Respond: take rapid, collaborative and effective actions nationally and locally to mitigate threats to health when they materialise Lead: lead strong and sustainable global, national, regional and local partnerships designed to save lives, protect the nation from public health threats and reduce inequalities. Job overview Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department. Performs a number of healthcare science technical activities under supervision, including testing patient samples/audit samples and research work, as appropriate to the training and qualifications of an Associate Practitioner. Uses laboratory equipment such as the BD Bactec FX, BD MGIT, Vitek 2, Centrifuges, Cepheid GeneXpert, Densitometers, Biofire FilmArray, MALDI-ToF, Class I and II Microbiology Safety Cabinets (MSC), Sysmex UF-5000, etc., to process patient samples under the supervision of a Biomedical Scientist. Maintains records in relation to laboratory activities. Will be required to supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff in own area. Develop and improve professional expertise.
