Job Description

St Paul’s Girls’ School is an extraordinary institution. While we consistently achieve some of the best GCSE and A‑level results in the country, we believe education is about far more than exams. With fewer rules and no uniform, we actively nurture creativity, curiosity and a love of discovery. Our rich co‑curricular programme builds confidence, encourages independence and strengthens our connection with the wider community. It’s a distinctive environment – ambitious, thoughtful and forward looking – but most importantly, it is a place where people matter. We are now seeking a full-time Teacher of English to join us from September 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to join an intellectually lively and deeply creative English Department whose work is grounded in a shared conviction: that literature matters profoundly and that all young people can be delighted, challenged and transformed by great writing. The department comprises seven teachers, many of whom are practising writers and academics. Teaching is proudly literary in its scope and ambition, with poetry, prose and drama at the heart of every year of the curriculum. Younger students encounter literature through screen‑free lessons and guided independent reading, while older students engage in demanding close analysis through the Cambridge IGCSE and the Eduqas A Level, which allows for genuine intellectual freedom and specialism. English is a flourishing subject beyond the classroom, with many students progressing each year to study the discipline at leading universities in the UK and beyond. We welcome applications from thoughtful, academically minded teachers, whether early in their career or highly experienced, who bring energy, imagination and generosity to their teaching. Joining us, you will enjoy working as part of a collaborative team and will be excited by the challenge of teaching highly able students across the full age range. In return, you can expect a comprehensive package of rewards, including a pension scheme, private medical insurance after five years’ service, life assurance, season ticket loan, free access to our extensive leisure facilities, free lunches, free eye tests, an advice and counselling service and a generous reduction on fees for your family. For further information and to apply, please click here . Closing date: 4 May 2026.
