Working for the RSPCA

The RSPCA is England and Wales' oldest animal welfare charity. Its paid roles split roughly into three groups: hands-on animal care at rescue and rehoming centres, frontline rescue and inspectorate work, and the support functions any large charity needs - fundraising, retail, administration and data.

Starting with no experience

Animal Care Assistant apprenticeships are the most common entry route and are advertised by animal centre rather than by region. They combine paid work at a centre with a formal qualification, and ask for enthusiasm and reliability rather than prior employment in animal care.

Animal Rescue Officer roles are the frontline rescue posts. They are advertised by patch (for example a county or a group of towns) and normally require a driving licence, with training provided by the charity.
