How apprenticeships work
An apprentice is an employee. You are paid for your time, you have a contract, and part of your working week is set aside for study toward a recognised qualification. That is the difference between an apprenticeship and an unpaid placement or an internship.
Apprenticeships run at several levels, from intermediate through to degree level. The level sets the entry requirements: some ask for GCSEs including maths and English, while others accept applicants without them and build those qualifications in.

What gets advertised here
The vacancies on this page come from employers and training providers across trades, care, retail, business administration, engineering and animal care. Availability is strongly seasonal - recruitment concentrates around the start of the academic year, so the list is fuller in late summer than in spring.
Apprenticeships are advertised by location and by employer rather than nationally, so it is worth checking the towns listed on this page rather than assuming your area has nothing.
How to apply
Each vacancy links to the original advertiser, which may be the employer or the training provider running the scheme. They handle the application and any assessment themselves.
Common questions
Do apprentices get paid?
Yes. An apprentice is an employee with a contract and is paid for working time, including the hours set aside for study. There is a specific National Minimum Wage apprentice rate that applies in the first year and to under-19s, after which the standard age-related minimum wage applies.
What qualifications do you need for an apprenticeship?
It depends on the level. Intermediate apprenticeships often accept applicants without formal qualifications and build maths and English in alongside the role. Higher and degree apprenticeships set entry requirements comparable to college or university courses.
Can you do an apprenticeship as an adult?
Yes. There is no upper age limit on apprenticeships in the UK. The apprentice minimum wage rate only applies in the first year and to under-19s, so an older apprentice moves onto the standard minimum wage for their age after twelve months.
